CAREER
Followed a pretty good year with
another pretty good year. Didn’t
make as much money these past two years because I gave up so much work to do
the doc instead. But still I got to do a lot of work I’m very proud
of, and it may have been the most varied challenges of any year I’ve had. This
year I finished up 2 episodes of “Gigolos” season 5 for Showtime,
completed the feature documentary “In The Turn,” one episode on season 3 of
“Catfish: The TV Show” for MTV, 2 episodes of “My Five Wives on TLC,” the
series premiere of “Resort Rescue” on Travel Channel, I cut two pilots
including “Sex Box,” which sold to WEtv. Then I became a Supervising Editor for
a new show currently airing on the fyi network called “Late Nite Chef Fight.” So I have 14 credit hours of television
and one feature this year...not too shabby, especially considering I was
unemployed for four months.
“In The Turn” has been travelling the
world at different festivals and I’ve been trying to make it to as many
screenings as I can. So far I saw
it in Seattle, St. Louis and Vienna!
Hopefully we find distribution and get it seen by more people. Good response so far and I look forward
to seeing where the movie goes and grows.
I maxed out my Roth IRA again, and I
hope to do the same next year.
Because of all the traveling combined with time off, I have lost a
significant chunk of my savings.
I voted on the Emmy awards again this
year, though I was too busy to vote in as many categories as I wanted to.
PERSONAL
Still living with Chelsea, we’ve been
together for 64 months now and our nub continues to grow. I still
love her and our life together will all my heart! Just tonight we went to the closing night of our favorite
restaurant Hatfield’s and I asked her mother’s permission to propose. Her mom said yes, so now I have to get
a ring and a plan.
The big news this year was I finally
made good on my resolutions to travel outside the U.S. We spent a week in each of these
places: Paris, Rome, Vienna and London.
We went to Paris because I ran the Paris marathon and then stayed on in
Rome for fun (although we hated Rome).
We went to Vienna because the documentary played there and we stayed on
in London for fun. I have found
that my favorite city in the world (outside of LA) is Paris. So romantic and artistic and
creative. And the food!
I had a lot of other great trips this
year, including Charlotte for Memorial Day, Seattle for my film premiere (which
was amazing!) and again for Christmas, Vegas for anniversary, and St. Louis for
film festival.
I had works in the same two art shows
as last year, and both of my pieces sold for great causes.
We went to fewer concerts this year
but they were pretty memorable, including Puddles Pity Party, Joan As Police
Woman in Rome, Ingrid Michaelson at the Wiltern, Lily Allen at the Palladium,
Britney Spears in Vegas, and the Vienna Boys Choir Christmas Show in
Vienna. I saw my first Opera in
Vienna, “La Traviata” at the Vienna State Opera House. I met a lot of my heroes including
pinup artist Olivia DeBerardinis, John Romita Jr (again), J. Scott Campbell,
Elvira, Don Coscarelli, Tom Savini, Greg Nicotero, Joe Lansdale, Chuck
Pahliniuk, Tippi Hedron, Julie Adams, and Jeffrey Combs.
I've been running again and I’m
registered for the LA Marathon in the spring. I’m behind in my training mainly because of Late Night Chef
Fight, so we’ll see how it goes...
I ran the Paris Marathon in 4:45:00; my goal was just to keep running
the whole time, and I did achieve that.
